Scott Christian Care Center (SCCC) seeks to provide families and individuals food to prepare nutritious meals. In 2012, 296 families, an estimated 850 people, received assistance from the Center. In 2013, the Food Pantry fed 695 families which equates to 2,780 parents, and children. In 2014, we were able to reach 1,200 families totaling about 4,900 people. In 2015, so far we have helped 892 families, resulting in about 3,588 people. To keep up with demand, Vista Volunteers serving at the Center organized a food drive with the OMS/OHS for the first two weeks of March. This drive brought in 1,506 food items that helped fill the barren shelves at the Center.
The local Dollar General stores selected SCCC for their yearly food drive during the month of May since 2013. Though the food drive with the schools (Middle & High Schools), local churches, Bible schools, Dollar General and periodic donations from Save-a-lot helps, it is not enough to meet the growing demand from local parents and children who seek out help in meeting their basic dietary needs.
What is it?
It is a way that almost anyone can give in a significant manner to help families and children in need of nutritious food. You sign on as a 20/20 partner, committing $20 a month for one year. Then your $20 gift plus many others giving $20 can really make a considerable impact. You can also talk with your friends, your small group, your Sunday School classes, etc., to see if they will join you in this cause.
For the cost of one cup of coffee a day, one soft drink or snack, you can make a lasting impact of the lives of families, adults and children in need.
TWENTY DOLLARS from one person does not seem significant until it is united with TWENTY DOLLARS from MANY people.
How Do You Get Started?
Once you have made the decision to make the one year commitment of $20 a month, you can contact the Center via phone (423) 569-2450, or by visiting the center at 19218 Alberta Street, Oneida, TN 37841.
